i.e. its going to look silly, but it is fine as far as the rules go! 
I think hes going to be a classic example in fact a textbook example of 'counts as'
plastic helmet - we said this was ok
grey greatcoat - fine by us
37 pat webbing - again perfectly fine
heavily scrimmed l96 sniper rifle - again fits the criteria
Not remotley 'authentic' but yet perfect by the letter of the rules.
it woudl seem hes into this for the game (and nowt wrong with that) than the dresing up aspect we love.

Good point Gadge, we have been hoist by our own petard! (Well, CiA's anyway ) Still, I trust he will see what's what at D-Day and have better kit for the next proper WW2 game!
The lure of the kit bug will bite, followed by the "must have better quality kit" and before you know it he'll be another Steiner / Kermit .

Aye but i think i know what a union or confed acw uniform looks like (my dad was mad about acw and i've a few books) BUT i reckon if i bought myself what i thought was right anybody with any real knowlege of the period would rip it to bits.
I think if 1 bloke in 60 looks a bit iffy, no ones gonna notice... unless we make a big thing of it then *everybody* will.
